If you work in a second language, you already do this in your head: compose in one language, type in another, check it, send it. ahsk collapses that into a gesture. Hold fn + Shift on the Mac (Ctrl + Win + T on Windows), say what you want to say, and the translated, cleaned-up sentence is pasted where your cursor is. Nobody else in the dictation category offers this as a gesture; they treat translation as a separate product.

How it works

Pick your second language once in Settings. Then hold fn + Shift (Mac) or Ctrl + Win + T (Windows), speak in your own language, and release. ahsk transcribes with Whisper large-v3, translates, formats, and pastes. Because it is dictation, your voice mode still applies: an email comes out shaped like an email, a chat message like a chat message.

Where it earns its keep

Replying to a client in their language without opening a translator tab. Writing to a landlord, a tax office or a school in the local language of the country you moved to. Drafting in the language you are fluent in and sending in the one your team reads. Studying: hearing yourself say it and seeing the translation land trains the phrase better than reading it.

Built for accents, because that is who translates

People who need translation are, by definition, speaking at least one language that is not their first. ahsk's transcription model was chosen for exactly that speech, so the English going in is heard correctly before it is translated. A translator that mishears you is worse than none.

Frequently Asked Questions

Does it translate in real time while I speak?

It translates when you release the key, in about the time a normal dictation takes. You hold, you speak, you let go, and the translated text appears. For a conversation it is quick enough; for a speech it is not a live interpreter.

Can I translate text that is already on screen?

Yes, on the Mac: select any text and use the translate action in the ahsk bubble. This page is about the voice gesture.

Is translation free?

It uses the same credits as dictation. The free tier includes 50 credits; Pro is €9.99 a month for Mac, Windows and iPhone together.
